Canteen in ac1
It was late and the
moon was hanging highly on the sky. I walked quickly to the canteen in ac1 to
fill my empty stomach which started complaining half an hour ago. When stepping
into the canteen, I was amazed by the crowd; it seemed that I had to wait a
lifelong time to get my turn. Disappointed and tired, I joined the line with a
deep sigh. While I waited for my turn, I noticed laughter bursting out from a
table near the window. There sat a few students who wore the same red nylon
T-shirts. They must be talking about something funny. A girl who covered her
mouth with her right hand leaned against another girl, shivering as if she
could never stop. The boys panted to say something but failed, only to laugh
out of breath. People around them glanced at them but soon turned back to eat
their own dinner.
The waitress
called me and I stepped up. It was my turn. I ordered barbecued duck rice. At
first the waitress did not understand because I spoke in mandarin. She frowned
and stared at me, hoping me to say it again.
Soon she understood and smiled to me. With the sound “BEEP”, the machine
slowly printed what I needed in a few seconds. I took the note and lined up for
my dinner.
I slowly moved
with the long line. People around me were mostly staring at their smartphones. The
light from the screen irradiated their face, and their black eyes reflected a
shinning white point. Their fingers moved fast on the screen and message sounds
were produced continuously. Some guys put their arms on each others shoulder,
talking about something in their daily life in a low voice.
There was a clear
window through which you could see what was happening in the kitchen. The
kitchen was clean and tidy with stainless-steel made wares showing the chefs’
reflection. What first caught my eyes were the toasted fowls such as chicken
and ducks. All were hanging on steel sticks, whetting everyone’s appetite. With
the yellow-red light irradiating, the transparent oil on them reflected shiny
lights, making them look so tasty that made me want to eat it as soon as
possible. The white-dressed chefs with plastic masks were cutting up the
roasted ducks quickly with their sharp knife making a sound of “DONG”. The
bones broke up and the meat inside was slightly raw, showing they were medium
roasted. It is probably the most delicious level. Hardly did I get my dinner
when the appetitive smell struck my nose. The black sauce covering the duck
excited my tongue even to the last minute of my dinner. The meat was easy to
chew and the skin tasted slightly burnt. It was a really enjoyable dinner!
